Abstract
 | Records of transport of goods by road have been kept since the 17th century to enable the raising of local rates for the upkeep of common highways. Today, surveys of road freight haulage provide a guide to trends in road transport, which are then used to inform government sustainable development strategies as well as specific policy decisions on issues such as road-building and the environment. The datasets in this series comprise results generated from a business survey titled 'Continuing Survey of Road Goods Transport (CSRGT)', as conducted during the period 1 January 1976 to 31 December 2003. The survey provides users with information on domestic road freight activity undertaken by UK-registered heavy goods vehicles using public roads. Survey data includes information such as details on journeys made, weight of vehicle, types of goods moved and fuel used, and data on the population of vehicles. |
