Scope & content	The average prices, per kg and in new pence, for a variety of goods, including meat, fish, bread, fruit, vegetables, vehicle fuel, cigarettes and alcohol. This table has been formed by joining the worksheets named 'Meat & fish', 'Other food' and 'Other' in the original file 'RPI_Average_prices_1914-2004.xls'. This file also included a worksheet named 'Data notes' which had the following information; Data are derived from the Retail Prices Index from July 1947 to 2004 and from the Cost of Living Index for 1914 to 1947 From 1948-1967 the prices are for October of each year Figures for the years 1915 to 1922 inclusive cover the area which is now Republic of Ireland. Average prices for Aug 1914 - Feb 1915 and Aug-Dec 1915 are representative of 'large' towns only The Cost of Living index began in July 1914, so the prices for 1914 are an average of July - December. The Cost of Living index ended in June 1947 so the data for 1947 is an average of January - June.
