Abstract

EAD

This series of datasets was generated from the Countryside Agency's Vital Villages Programme which was set up to provide advice, funding and support for rural communities, ranging from community services to interpreting and conserving local heritage. The dataset comprises the records of circa 5,000 small community projects carried out by community groups, parish councils, transport partnerships and small businesses in rural England between April 2001 and March 2005. Data captured includes: location and description of projects, planned and actual outputs, amounts and dates of awarded grants, and lists of project beneficiaries. The data was specifically used for project management by Countryside Agency regional staff and for monitoring and evaluation of the programme by the national Vital Villages team. As most of the project data was available to the public via the Countryside Agency's website, the data was also used to inform the public and to share good practice.
