The dataset is a record of conservation work carried out for the year 1992. For further information, see the Series catalogue.

| Digital processing and conversion |
The dataset was received as a single Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The data was exported in CSV format; the first record contained column headings and this was removed. The last 2 records comprised one blank line and one line with totals for the numeric data columns; these 2 records were also removed.
All DOS record delimiters were replaced with the Unix equivalent.

The dataset comprises a single table. Field names were taken from the original MS Excel spreadsheet column headings, with any embedded spaces or other non-alphanumeric characters removed or replaced with underscores. Some column headings occurred more than once, and these were altered by adding numeric suffixes to differentiate them. Data types were assigned by inspection of the data.
In some cases the Excel column headings provided an adequate field description; in the remaining cases, descriptions were taken from the accompanying dataset documentation.

Although no datatypes appear to have been explicitly defined in the original MS Excel spreadsheets by the original department, the data was checked against the datatypes inferred by NDAD, and against some datatypes assigned automatically by Excel.
The field NoParts, assigned the integer datatype, includes one record with the value '\'.

| Transformation validation |
The number of data records in the Excel spreadsheet was compared with the number of records in the exported data file, and was found to be consistent.
Some basic statistical operations (maximum, sum, mean) were carried out on randomly-selected numeric fields from the Excel spreadsheet; the same operations were carried out on the converted data file. No discrepancies were found.
