NDAD finding aids record the background and content of each dataset, and the computer systems on which it was managed and run. They also describe any electronic and paper documentation received with a dataset. The finding aids comprise:

  • A catalogue for each series of datasets, individual dataset and accompanying documentation
  • An administrative history of each government department and agency which has transferred material to NDAD
  • A Thesaurus which acts as an authority list for both keyword searching and the finding aids

The Thesaurus allows you to search for subjects by selecting subjects from lists of terms organised alphabetically and hierarchically. To search for the name of a person, family, place or corporate body, you can use the Names Index. You can also search for arbitrary text in the finding aids by using Search.

An explanation of the terms used in the descriptions of data tables and fields is given in the Metadata section.
