This service allows you to order copies of datasets (including individual tables within a datasets) and dataset documentation.
Orders can be placed via the On-line Ordering System, by post, telephone, fax or email.
Links to the Ordering System can be found in the descriptions of datasets, tables and documents. On the Order form you can select
the data formats and media required. Once the form is submitted, NDAD staff will contact you with a quote for the cost of the
order.
Payment and delivery
Once you have confirmed the order, we must receive payment before processing it, unless we have a signed agreement with your
organisation to pay accounts which we invoice them for. Your payments can be made by cheque or postal order via the post, or by
credit card by ringing our helpdesk to provide your credit card details. Full details of the charges are available in
our page Information on chargeable services.
Delivery of your order will be by post, although courier delivery is available at extra cost. For large orders, it may be possible
to arrange collection from our premises.
Media
Digital copies of the archives (either datasets themselves, or dataset documentation) can be supplied on the following media:
IBM 3490/3490E cartridge tape
DDS/DDS2 DAT tape
Exabyte 8200/8500 tape
3.5" floppy disk
Write-once CD-ROM
Images of items of documentation can be provided as either JPEG or TIFF.
Copies of the archives can also be supplied on paper. For datasets, this is only suitable for small extracts of data (such as those
that might result from using the the paid search services). Paper copies of dataset documentation are reproduced from the scanned
images stored in the archives. The copies are thus usually of a higher quality than photocopies of the originals.
Licence
The copies you receive will be accompanied by a single-end-user licence detailing the terms and conditions of use of the copies and
any applicable copyright statements.
You will also receive with the items requested a certificate describing the file(s) requested, the person for whom the order was
produced (i.e.you), and the date and time of the order, together with a unique digital signature generated by us. This certificate
confirms that the copies you possess are authorised, and have been produced by us as agents of the National Archives. If anyone
challenges your right to possess the copies, or how you came by them, you may ask us to validate your certificate to show that you
hold the copies lawfully. The certificates can also be used by NDAD and TNA to track the source of illegal copies.
