The NDAD website is currently being updated, and will shortly be relaunched with a new colour scheme and design. The changeover is scheduled to take place in May 2005: users will be notified of the changeover date as soon as final preparations are complete.
Integration with The National Archives This is part of an ongoing programme to integrate the many different sites managed by The National Archives. The main purpose of these changes is to make all the resources of NDAD available within the website of The National Archives. The new primary URL of NDAD is http://www.ndad.nationalarchives.gov.uk. (The former URL, http://ndad.ulcc.ac.uk will continue to function for the foreseeable future, but users are encouraged to update their bookmarks as soon as possible.) New design NDAD information, finding aids and tools for accessing data and documentation will in future appear beneath the main menu and banner of The National Archives website (www.nationalarchives.gov.uk), offering seamless links to the many other online resources provided by The National Archives.
NDAD will offer the same functionality as before. However, to improve consistency with other National Archives websites, particularly The
Catalogue, some menu items have been renamed, notably Access - the main point of access to the hierarchy of NDAD finding aids - which will become known as Browse. The free-text and thesaurus-based searching facilities have also been revised to look and feel more like the Search and Topic Index features in the National Archives website. New features Only a few new features are being introduced as part of this update. In addition to the full ISAD(G) catalogue information for objects in NDAD, and the Summary view (now renamed Quick reference), users can also explore the finding aids hierarchy using a tree view, similar to that used in The Catalogue. Catalogue information about documents and documentation subseries has been restructured so that each can be viewed separately, as well as in the exhaustive Dataset Documentation Catalogue. User registration will no longer be mandatory for anyone wishing to access data and documentation in NDAD. Users will still be encouraged to register, to receive updates about the service and to help the National Archives to gain feedback about what its users want from the service. If you have any questions about this update, please contact NDAD at enquiries@nationalarchives.gov.uk.
