As part of the continuing improvements within the ULCC data
centre, two network maintenance periods are required on Tuesday
29th July & Tuesday 12th August.
Each session will last approximately one hour from 07:30 until
08:30, and while we will endeavour to keep the actual outages
to a minimum, access to the NDAD site is likely to be affected during these periods.
This work is related to the provision of the resilient links into
the LMN (London Metropolitan Network) and improved overall network
traffic management.

As part of the continuing network improvements within the ULCC data
centre, a network maintenance period of approximately one hour
shall be required on Tuesday 17th June 2008. This will allow the
first connection of a resilient pair of networking links into the LMN
(London Metropolitan Network) to be enabled.
A second network maintenance period will then be taken on Tuesday 1st
July to connect the second link of the pair which will allow full
resiliency of the network connectivity and improved overall network
traffic management.
In both cases there will be a period of approximately one hour during
which a network outage can be expected. Whilst we will endeavour to
keep the actual outages to a minimum, some network instability should
be expected during these periods.
This work will affect all external access to ULCC-hosted services, including NDAD.

Tomorrow's rescheduled network upgrade by the London Metropolitan Network has been postponed again by them. It is now planned to take place on Wednesday 6th December between 0700 and 0900 GMT. This in turn means that the other network maintenance which was scheduled for the 5th December has had to be postponed until Tuesday 12th December, again between 0700 and 0900 GMT. We apologise for the confusion caused by this repeated postponement by LMN, and once again would like to stress that this work is outside our control.

This morning's network upgrade by the London Metropolitan Network (LMN) had to be aborted due to technical problems. LMN plans to re-attempt the upgrade this Thursday 30th November between 0700-0900 GMT. Once again connectivity to NDAD is likely to be lost for some period during this time. This work is outside the control of ULCC or NDAD.
The previously announced maintenance work on 5th December should still proceed as planned.

NDAD has extensively revised its documentation browsing features, including a new interface for browsing open documentation, and an improved layout for dataset documentation catalogues.

In the first major update to the NDAD web site since last June's redesign, NDAD has made significant improvements to the management and accessibility of the Archive's documentation. New features incude:
- Thumbnail views of document images in the Document Browser
- Preview excerpts of text files
- Delivery of a wider range of file formats, including PDF, with work already under way to add more
- A new, streamlined Dataset Documentation Catalogue, with an improved layout to support a larger number of descriptive elements
NDAD's underlying systems for managing data and metadata have been redesigned in conjunction with these changes to include increased support and use of EAD, alongside ISAD(G), as well as more effective use of XML, TIFF and other technical standards.
